“Lipos” a Greek word which means “fat”.

suction gotten from a late Latin word “Suctionem” which means the process of sucking or action produced by a vacuum.

Put together, Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess fat from different parts of the body with the goal of reshaping or achieving a slimmer body. using the suction technique.

Types of Liposuction

What is Tumescent Liposuction

This is the most popular type of Liposuction performed in the United States. During this procedure, diluted lidocaine and epinephrine ( capillary shrinkers) are injected into the subcutaneous fat ( fat found under the skin). with the use of a microcannula which produces efficacious and  less painful fat removal process than the traditional liposuction.

This procedure can be done in two ways:

Wet: in wet tumescent, more quantity of fluid is used to expand the subcutaneous fat space to make it easier to remove fat deposits. This procedure can be done without the General anesthesia since the quantity of lidocaine used is enough to numb the target area.

Super-wet: In wet tumescent, the amount of fluid used is equals the amount of fat to be removed, this procedure is usually done under General anesthesia since the quantity of lidocaine used is is not enough to numb the target areas as the wet tumescent would

What are the Benefits of the Tumescent Liposuction

  • It is safer than the traditional liposuction
  • It eliminates the need for IV fluids
  • Reduces blood loss
  • Produces better and natural looking results
  • It is the best procedure for those who can’t go through General Anesthesia
  • Shorter recovery time

What is an Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

in this procedure, ultrasonic waves are used to liquefy fat in target areas and the liquid fat is then suctioned with a cannula. It is mostly used for sensitive parts of the body like neck, ankle, feet, and face with more stubborn fat cells.

This procedure can also be done in two ways:

Internal Ultrasonic: This is when the ultra sonic probes are inserted into the body through small incisions. The probe then emits ultrasonic vibrations that break up the stubborn fat

External Ultrasonic: This procedure does not require an incision. The ultra sonic vibrations are emitted outside the body through the skin. The downside to this procedure is that it can interfere or muddle the nervous system and can also cause bruises that can lead to scarring.

What are the Benefits?

  • Eradicates the most difficult fibrous fat cells
  • Increases skin contraction
  • Has a shorter recovery time
