BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT (BBL)
ABOUT

Gluteal fat grafting, popularly known as Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL or African Butt Lift (ABL) by Dr. Obeng, enhances a person’s buttock region with their fat tissues. BBL is a two-step procedure that starts with Liposuction ( fat removal) from different parts of the body mostly the abdomen, flanks, back, and thighs. The removed fat is then injected into the buttocks and hip region to give the desired shape and size.

Most plastic surgeons use a fat transfer method for a Brazilian butt lift, re-positioning body fat from unwanted locations to pad and reshape the posterior. Some surgeons also use implants for a butt lift. MiKO Plastic Surgery emphasizes natural, less invasive treatment and does not offer implants. Dr. Michael K. Obeng uses advanced “Tickle” liposuction to harvest stem-cell enriched fat from the patient’s body, then transfers this fat to add shape, contour, and lift to the buttocks. At MiKO Plastic Surgery, we especially recommend contouring the waist or love handles in conjunction with the Brazilian Butt Lift as this accentuates the curvature of the buttocks.

Fat harvesting for your Brazilian butt lift gives you the bonus of a sleeker midsection. The fat is commonly taken from the flanks (also known as “love handles”) which further emphasizes your new, rounded buttocks and pulls in the waist at the same time.

HOW CAN I OPTIMIZE MY BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT RESULTS?

Worried about getting the best results from your procedure? here are some things you can do to optimize your results.

Make sure you are taking a good amount of protein before surgery.

Eating healthy.

Drinking lots of water.

Exercising.

After surgery follow the instructions of your surgeon.

If you follow all these judiciously, you will get great results.

HOW LONG WILL MY RECOVERY TAKE?

Recovery from BBL takes about two to three weeks. you are not required to sit on your buttocks for about two weeks and it is mandatory not to sit on it for the first week. it can get uncomfortable lying on the tummy. Dr. Obeng will advise you to walk around a lot which will also help your blood circulation and helps fast healing. When using the bathroom, you should try squatting or suspend your body so you won’t be adding pressure to the buttocks. By the third week you should be doing a sitting protocol where after fifteen minutes of sitting, you stand for five. This is so that you don’t kill all the fat cells that have grafted.

You will notice a difference in your body shape immediately, but the full effects of a Brazilian butt lift are seen in about three months. Our patients are usually very happy, and love shopping for clothes to show off their new body contours!

HOW LONG WILL MY BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT LAST?

The fat from BBL grows with you. your BBL loses with your body when you lose weight and increases when you add weight. This means that your BBL lasts can last a lifetime

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO TAKE OFF WORK?

If you have a job you don’t have to sit, you can get back to work after three to four days of your procedure. However, Dr. Obeng will advise you to take about two to three weeks before resuming work if you can to get all the rest you need.

WHEN CAN I RESUME MY WORKOUT AFTER BBL?

Dr. Obeng will advise you to wait for about six weeks. It takes the body about six weeks to get back to about seventy percent of its original tensile strength meaning that by six weeks, the patient can resume all pre-op activities. The tissue strength is strong enough to withstand working out, running, lifting, and all other forms of physical activity.

RECOVERY TIME

There are complications involved with every surgery and you must have heard of people dying after BBL. This is not to scare you, but to emphasis why choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon for your procedure is necessary. Some of the possible complications involved with Brazilian butt lift (BBL) are:

Fat Embolism is the presence of fat cells in the bloodstream that can make their way to the lungs and sometimes to the brain leading to death. We have never had this complication here at MiKO Plastic Surgery because Dr. Michael K. Obeng is just board-certified, he also has over twenty years of surgical experience and uses the right tools.

Seroma is not uncommon, It is the build-up of fluid in the body. This is not a fatal issue, it just means we took off so much fat during the Liposuction. If this happens, you have to visit your surgeon every week for about three weeks to aspirate the collected fluid.

Fat Necrosis happens when the fat does not have a good supply of blood and dies off or when pressure is applied to the buttocks before it heals completely. This leads to the appearance of hard lumps on your buttocks

Infections can lead affect the buttocks’ tissues and cause abscesses and sometimes the buttocks may start to decay. We have never had that issue here at MiKO Plastic Surgery.
