WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT LIPOSUCTION? READ THIS

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction lipectomy or “lipo”, is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the US as over 400,000 procedures are done each year in the United States alone. The procedure can be done on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves and the back. The fat, which is minimized using an instrument called a cannula, is inserted under the skin while the patient is under local anesthetic. The fat is “sucked” out using this powerful and high-pressure vacuum that is applied to the cannula.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIPO?

Those who have problem areas on their body that they are unable to get rid of with a simple diet or exercise adjustment are good candidates for Orange County Liposuction. Keep in mind that it is not a weight loss treatment, and is not designed to treat obesity. For patients with these problem areas, liposuction can be a very effective solution. Liposuction minimize fat cells from the body and the amount of fat that can be minimized in one procedure varies depending on the patient. It’s important to note that liposuction won’t necessarily get rid of cellulite or dimples in the skin. While liposuction can alter the shape of the body, we recommend leading a healthy lifestyle after the procedure to maintain the best results from the procedure.

WHERE LIPOSUCTION ALL BEGAN…

Liposuction was first invented in 1974 by Doctor Giorgio and Doctor Arpad Fisher. However, “modern” liposuction was not practiced until 1980’s by Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz, a French surgeon, who first performed suction-assisted lipolysis, “after infusing fluid into tissues using blunt cannulae and a high-vacuum suction.” It was not until 1985 that the procedure was finally performed under local anesthetic instead of general anesthetic, by Drs. Jeffrey Alan Klein and Patrick Lillis. Over nearly three decades, the advancements in liposuction have been geared toward removing as many fat cells as possible with the least amount of blood loss – the ultimate goal being a less invasive procedure. Today, patients are able to get the procedure under local anesthetic in a Doctor’s office setting, and return to their normal routine the same day.

A SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUE

While liposuction is performed by many surgeons, it is still a specialized procedure and a skilled and board certified plastic surgeon is your best option for the best results. As with any cosmetic procedure, and even though liposuction is considered a less invasive option, it still comes with its risks of complication and error if not performed correctly. Always choose a board certified plastic surgeon who understands the technique and how to sculpt the body for natural liposuction results.
