NEW STUDY ON PLASTIC SURGERY

MALE PLASTIC SURGERY – WHERE IS IT HEADING?

Our society in general places a high emphasis on looking fit and staying young. A new study led by Manhattan-based surgeon Dr. Joshua Zimm, found that plastic surgery doesn’t make us any more attractive and has many up in arms over the benefits. However, Americans spent nearly $11 billion on plastic surgery last year alone and the numbers are beginning to show a huge increase for men as well, according to Men’s Journal. Regardless of the new study led by Dr. Joshua Zimm, billions of people are choosing cosmetic and reconstructive procedures to improve appearance and better self-esteem.

WHERE PLASTIC SURGERY IS HEADING FOR MEN

While plastic surgery is a female-dominant industry and while men undergo fewer than 10 percent of all cosmetic surgeries, they are opting for it more today compared to thirteen years ago. And some procedures are more popular –Men’s Journal reported that the top procedures for men currently are eyelid surgeries and nose jobs, but gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction) is becoming more popular in recent years. Men’s Journal reported that nearly 21,000 men had the breast reduction procedure in 2012 (that’s an increase of five percent) and the numbers are continuing to rise.

recent article from FOXNews.com supports the new trends in male plastic surgery. Square jaws and strong features that can’t be achieved with a four-day workout regimen need more delicate attention from a skilled and trained plastic surgeon. Other procedures that are more in demand are chin implants that balance out the other facial features.

Dr. Michael K. Obeng, a Harvard trained, board certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, specializes in reconstructive and cosmetic procedures for men seeking either enhancements or complete transformations. Regarding Dr. Zimm’s study, Dr. Obeng of MiKO Plastic Surgery isn’t concerned this will have any negative impact on the industry. For Dr. Obeng and MiKO Plastic Surgery, it’s more about helping people achieve their goals so they can regain their confidence and improve self-esteem.
